The Best Draft Picks by the Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins joined the NFL in 1970, having been a section of the American Football League prior to that. The franchise made it to its first natty Bowl after the 1971 season, neat Bowl VI, but lost to the Dallas Cowboys. The Miami Dolphins achieved the first perfect season the next year, in 1972, which resulted in a well-kept Bowl VII accumulate. The team was the first to execute it to three consecutive neat Bowls and the second team to earn back-to-back Championships.

No. 3: Zach Thomas, LB, (1996 - 2007)

Zach Thomas was drafted in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Who is Zach Thomas, you might ask? Zach Thomas is one of only three players to represent 100-plus tackles in each of his first 10 seasons. The linebacker was a beast on the field and single-handedly dominated the opposition on a consistent basis, recording 1,041 tackles and 598 assists. The seven-time Pro Bowler also had 19.5 sacks with 17 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, 7 fumbles recovered and four touchdowns. The greatness of the player is summed up by highlighting that he made more tackles than any linebacker inducted into the Hall of Fame, and is ranked fourth all-time in NFL history.

No. 2: Jason Taylor, DL, (1997 - 2007, 2009 & 2011)

Jason Taylor was considered undersized for playing on the defensive line, but he was nonetheless drafted by Miami in the third round of the 1997 NFL draft, going 73rd overall. The rest is history as he racked up more than 120 sacks with the Dolphins in 188 games. His career numbers are improbable as he amassed 45 fumbles forced, 27 fumbles recovered and 8 interceptions with three touchdowns. He has made 471 tackles, becoming one of the premier defensive ends in the NFL. With a total of 132.5 sacks as of 2010, he was the active NFL sack leader and had made it to the Pro Bowl for six appearances. He announced his retirement after the 2011 season. It is only a matter of time before the Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 is inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

No. 1: Dan Marino, QB, (1983 - 1999)

Dan Marino has played the most games for the Miami Dolphins franchise, starting 240 of them. When he retired, his numbers stood at honest under 5,000 passes, 61,361 yards and 420 touchdowns. In 1984 Marino was named the NFL MVP after throwing for a record-setting 5,084 passing yards and 48 touchdowns. The player, who was named to the Hall of Fame in 2005, started for the AFC in the Pro Bowl on nine occasions, 1983 - 1987, 1991 - 1992 and 1994 - 1995. Marino is one of the most prolific passers ever to play the game, having held almost all the passing records you can contemplate of in the NFL. He led the franchise to the playoffs in 10 seasons, earning five divisional titles, but never won the elegant Bowl, coming finish in orderly Bowl XIX.

Even though Marino may be one of the greatest players who never won a elegant Bowl, there is no second-guessing that Dan Marino deserves to be called the best player ever drafted by the Miami Dolphins.
